Chek Jawa
July 26th, 2009 by Pei Shan | Filed under Happenings, Loved Ones, Travel.About one day +++ to my wisdom teeth removal operation. I AM FREAKING OUT. T.T How am I supposed to go through the aftermath? I have pain tolerance of zero. :(
Anyway, woke up early this morning at 5am to prepare for our Chek Jawa guided tour at 8am. The trip can be booked from NParks website. $60 for a group (max 15 people), payment by cheque. Ours was a small one – just my brother-in-law, niece, older nephew, mui, Mr. Piggy, and me.
By 630am we were at Changi jetty waiting for a bumboat to leave for Pulau Ubin. There’s not fixed timing for the departure of bumboats – they only leave when they get 12 people. $2.50/pax. Reached Pulau Ubin jetty early 7++am. There were many parked vans in front of the jetty. We engaged a driver and told her we’re going to Chek Jawa. $4/pax for round-trip. The ride on van is about 10-15mins.
By 730am we’ve already arrived at the Chek Jawa information kiosk, which is the meeting point for the guided tour. The six of us explored the area for a bit while waiting for time to pass.. We saw wild boars! Would say they are kinda cute. XD
At 8+am we’ve registered with the NParks volunteers and were assigned a guide named Terry. He’s a good-natured man. :) Took us on a walk on the mangrove broadwalk before bringing us to the sandbar, where he explained to us some of the interesting animals living on the shores of Chek Jawa. The broadwalk is opened daily from 830am to 6pm, but to go to the sandbar you have to register for the guided tour. I would think it’s worth it!
After the sandbar we continued the walk on the coastal broadwalk, and ended the guided tour at the visitors’ centre. We went back to the jetty the same way we came and joined erjie and little J for dim sum breakfast! Went to Changi V to buy some goreng pisang and the famous nasi lemak back to Mr. Piggy’s house. Was about 1pm when we were back. After a quick shower I went ahead and concuss for a few good hours before waking up to eat some food and caught the movie Public Enemies.
I’m gonna steal the photos from mui. Should update this post soon. :D
Now I’m going back to sleep. :)
Edit: Pictures after the cut! Lots and lots of them! Props to mui who took the wonderful pictures. :)))

Changi jetty at wee hours.. Zzzzz..

Sinister looking trees and roots.

That’s LOTS of Fiddler crabs…

Close-up of these little guys.

Mussels!

That’s a shy one there.

Knobbly sea star. All sea stars are cute but carnivorous suckers. (Speaking of which, erjie have had her seahorse sucked to death by their sea star which they kept in the same tank.)

Short clip of our guide telling us about the Horseshoe crab.

忧郁男!
